Conservation Ontario 2015 Annual Report
Partners of Choice
Through their watershed management programs and services, Conservation Authorities provide significant added value to their many partners including all levels of government, other agencies, businesses, landowners and residents. 
With their ability to deliver many programs province-wide, Conservation Authorities provide local watershed expertise and experience that can be leveraged for multiple outcomes around climate change adaptation, healthy Great Lakes, protection of drinking water sources, and resilient land and water resources. 
Priorities addressed by Conservation Ontario and the Conservation Authorities included:
  • Building support for Conservation Authority flood operations in order to continue to address more frequent extreme weather impacts in Ontario watersheds 
  • Promoting a watershed-based approach for healthy Great Lakes
  • Approval of 22 source protection plans by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change
  • Recognizing and protecting the ecological and public health benefits of resilient water and land resources
  • Streamlining regulatory-related activities by Conservation Authorities
  • Encouraging Ontarians to Step into Nature through a Healthy Hikes campaign 
  • Providing a forum at the Latornell Conservation Symposium for Ontario’s practitioners, government and other agencies to explore solutions to address climate change impacts in Ontario
